Sgt. Joel Trumbo

LEAD INSTRUCTOR

Born and raised in Virginia with family roots going back generations, Joel is the lead physical training and special skills instructor. He brings years of teaching experience alongside extensive skills and background in the US Army Ranger Regiment and other special operations environments around the world, from combat deployments in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan from 2003 – 2013 to high-threat protection for US ambassadors and State Dept personnel in Iraq and Africa until 2018 when he began teaching and pursuing various traditional manual arts like painting, bookbinding, and wood joinery. He blends tactical, personal, and team dynamic development to maximize the capabilities of young men looking to grow their skill-sets, hone their leadership, and habituate excellence in any environment they find themselves in.

Dr. Ryan Crimmins

Ryan was born and raised on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Some of his ancestors settled in the Shenandoah Valley over 200 years ago, and as a historian he is obliged to dwell in the past. He holds a doctorate in History from Oxford University, specializing in early modern central Europe. While completing his doctorate he taught at various levels, worked as a researcher for the British Army, and consulted on a third level education project in Ireland. When he’s not helping out at the Shenandoah Field School, Ryan works in early stage investment and manages a herd of ninety-two goats and two llamas in Shenandoah County. Ryan enjoys baseball, and the Gaelic game of hurling.

Sgt. Victor Beasley

BUILDING INSTRUCTOR

Originally from Richmond, Mr. Beasley is recently retired from the U.S. Army after serving for 30 years. He served as an Airborne Ranger, an artillery gunnery sergeant, an MP, and a recruiter. He was also in charge of the decontamination element of a unit that reacted to terrorist attacks and mass casualty events within the United States. Before enlisting he received his electrical journeyman’s license and has worked in that field on and off for years. Mr. Beasley received his BA in Business Administration from Averett University. Mr. Beasley has been married over 25 years and has three wonderful children, a dog, two cats, and a frog.

In his free time, Mr. Beasley likes hiking, spending time with his family, and serving at church. He plans to add chickens and bees to the family soon.
